What information does Turinglab collect about me?

Account information

In order to use some features of our platform you need to make an account. During account creation, as a student we first ask for your age. We do not store this data, we just use it to determine if you are over the age of 13. If you are 13 years or over, we ask you for your first name, surname (optional) and email address. This is the only personal information we store. For students under 13, we have a separate process outlined in the section below. As a teacher we collect your full name, your learning environment (typically a school) and your email address. You can read below about why, and how we use this information.

Children under age of digital consent

For children under that age of digital consent (13 in the Uk) we have a different process to make sure we are providing parents with additional control over their children's accounts.

If a user declares their age to be under that required for digital consent, we do not ask for their real name but simply a username. We also ask for their parent's email address. We do not store any other personal data.

After the student has created their account, we send an email to their parent notifying them that their child has created an account on Turinglab and information on our Privacy practices with regards to children. We also explain how they can request that Turinglab change or remove personal data about their child.

By design, we do not need to change the experience of using Turinglab for children. The only difference for child users is that we prevent them from accessing the details page of their profile to prevent them entering personal data such as their name.

Additionally all third party analytics are disabled for child users regardless of their opt in preference.

When you use the Turinglab platform, we store a limited amount of information about how you use the platform, including your progress through our learning materials, which pages you have visited, any code you have written or console messages you may have logged.
